Duos are used in many cases for mics with added, slip-on wind protection (e.g. Super-Softie®) or bulbous heads: basically any design that is 'front heavy' and needs extra stability. They can also be used for heavier mics in much the same way as the 82-Shore Single Lyres, where the user needs to be sure of extra support.
